Summer days are in full swing which means it's time to bring together family, friends, and neighbours and make some summertime memories. And the best way to do it is to organize a friendly backyard match both kids and adults can enjoy.
In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of organizing a successful and entertaining friendly match right in the comfort of your backyard.
Pick up the sport to play at your match. Consider the preferences and skill levels of the participants to make sure everyone can actively participate and have fun. It could be soccer, badminton, volleyball, croquet and even a casual game of pickleball or bocce ball.
Make sure there is enough room on your backyard for players to move around comfortably without any obstacles or uneven ground. If needed, clear the area and make any necessary adjustments to create a safe playing environment.
Reach out to your family, friends, and neighbours! Consider creating a group chat or using event-planning platforms to send invitations and gather RSVPs. Encourage participants to invite others, because the more -- the merrier.
Select a date and time that works best for the majority of participants. Aim for a time when people are generally available, such as weekends or evenings. Try to be flexible and considerate of everyone's schedules to make sure everyone can make it.
Depending on the number of participants, divide them into teams. You can choose to have a casual mix of players or create balanced teams based on skill levels for a more competitive experience. Consider rotating teams between matches to ensure everyone gets a chance to play with different people.
Make sure you have all the necessary equipment for the chosen sport. This may include balls, nets, goalposts, cones, or any other equipment specific to the game. Check out our Backyard Games collection -- we might have just what you need!
Before the match, discuss and agree upon the rules to be followed. Keep it simple and flexible, especially if participants have varying levels of expertise. Make sure everyone is on the same page before playing!
